25,000 Square Feet Interior Architecture and
Interior Design
Completed 2006
Mueller Water Products is a spin off of a group of companies owned by Walter Industries. This project came to Edge Architecture as a result of our previous work for Walter Industries. The project consisted of an interior build out of a new corporate headquarters within a prestigious high rise office building in Atlanta.
Mueller Water Products designs and manufactures valves, pipes, hydrants, etc. for large scale water distribution systems. Water, the flow of water, and the materials used to channel water were key elements of the concept for the design of their new space. Water was incorporated into the design in a literal sense through the installation of two custom water features, providing not only visual appeal, but audible appeal as well, with the sounds of the flowing water. Water and water flow were mimicked by the use of clear glass light fixtures which looked like droplets of water hung from the ceiling. Walls were designed with “bubble” glass cased in dark, rich mahogany wood panels. Specialty paint finishes in metallic colors and textures were used to recall the materials and textures of pipes and valves.
Historic photography and artwork from the earliest days of the three original companies that became Mueller Water Products was meticulously sifted through, selected and reproduced in sepia tones, providing a sense of the rich history of the company. Products manufactured by Mueller were collected for display. Each product was matched to an appropriate display area in the space based upon its size and weight. Display shelving was incorporated into the design of the space at an early stage in the design, and custom designed and built display pedestals were provided in key locations for larger products. |
